Work-in-Progress Showcase

Thank you to everyone who came along to my recent work-in-progress show - it was a wonderful opportunity to share what I’ve been developing and to connect with so many supportive faces.

I presented a series of pieces woven on the Jacquard loom, created using donated, gifted, deadstock, and mill waste yarn. Sustainability has been central to this project, and working with these materials has opened up exciting new directions in my practice.

The works reflect different aspects of my personal history. Some are reminiscent of my childhood in Hong Kong and growing up by the sea - a sense of nostalgia communicated through bright colours and bold illustrations. Others explore my family heritage home in Scotland, by the seaside, expressed through the blue-toned pieces at the base of the installation.

I’m deeply grateful to my friends and family for their encouragement and support - and for capturing photos of my work when I forgot to myself! Special thanks also to @sungwonyoonstudio and @skirastudio for organising the event, and to @elsa.anderson.studio, @mimansa_b, and @ashantiarttt for their invaluable help with installation.

It was also a joy to see members of the university’s textile technical team taking time during their lunch break to visit the show and engage with student work
